LOS ANGELES\u2014Jan. 22, 2024<\/span><\/span>\u00a0PRNewswire<\/a><\/u>\/ —\u00a0On\u00a0January 10, 2024<\/span>, the\u00a0Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) gave official approval to 11\u00a0Financial Institutions\u00a0to create a “spot\u00a0bitcoin\u00a0ETF” (Exchange-Traded Fund). This long-awaited and controversial government approval basically allows these 11 Financial Institutions to now offer to the public the opportunity to buy “bitcoin” easily and safely as if it were simply a stock in a mutual fund on the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, or\u00a0Chicago<\/span>\u00a0Board of Trade, instead of investors still having to figure out how to buy it on a “Crypto\u00a0Exchange” (e.g.\u00a0Coinbase) as a\u00a0“mysterious” and\u00a0“dangerous”\u00a0cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n

This approval is recognized worldwide as the biggest event in the history of\u00a0Bitcoin\u00a0and\u00a0cryptocurrency. It finally adds legitimacy to\u00a0Bitcoin\u00a0as an Asset Class, and it has opened a floodgate of new investors causing the price of\u00a0bitcoin\u00a0(BTC) and\u00a0cryptocurrencies\u00a0in general to ultimately increase substantially.\u00a0\u00a0Bitcoin\u00a0has gone mainstream.<\/p>\n

So, how does this financial world news impact the highly contested U.S. Congressional Race CA 32 in\u00a0Los Angeles, California<\/span>? Well, in addition to Californians now being able to buy\u00a0bitcoin\u00a0easily just like every other person in\u00a0the United States<\/span>, it also shines a bright light on long-time,<\/b>\u00a0crypto-hater Rep.\u00a0Brad Sherman<\/span>\u00a0(D) of CA 32, who has been (and still is today)\u00a0the biggest opponent of\u00a0Bitcoin\u00a0and\u00a0cryptocurrencies\u00a0in\u00a0Washington, D.C.<\/span>, calling them a “Garden of Snakes for investors who are thieves, felons, drug dealers, money launderers, sex traffickers, and those attempting to evade taxes.”<\/p>\n

Sherman, who\u00a0serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and is the\u00a0Chair of the Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets,\u00a0has been fighting for over 15 years to not regulate or even ban\u00a0bitcoin\u00a0and\u00a0cryptocurrencies, but to “outlaw” them.\u00a0Sherman is supported by big banks and financial institutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Larry Thompson<\/span>, veteran entertainment attorney, acclaimed talent manager and film producer, plus long-time\u00a0crypto\u00a0advocate and investor is strongly challenging Sherman and has received the very valuable, unanimous endorsement of the\u00a0California<\/span>\u00a0Republican Party.<\/p>\n

Thompson also received this past week the additional endorsements of both\u00a0Brock Pierce<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Perianne Boring<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Pierce is the Chairman of The\u00a0Bitcoin\u00a0Foundation, the longest established\u00a0Bitcoin\u00a0advocacy organization in the world.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He is also a Venture Philanthropist who has been credited with pioneering the market for digital currency and has raised more than\u00a0$5B<\/span>\u00a0for companies he has founded. “You’ve supported this community and industry,” says Pierce to Thompson, \u00a0“long before you chose to run for office. I would hope that a lot of people see you as the tip of the spear, and an agent of change to help enable the future where we can have regulatory clarity and certainty, where America can stay the capital of innovation.\u00a0 Thank you for stepping up in this very important race.”<\/p>\n

Perianne Boring<\/span>\u00a0is Founder and CEO of the Chamber of Digital Commerce, which is the world’s largest trade association representing the blockchain industry. When offering from\u00a0Washington<\/span>\u00a0her endorsement to Thompson she claimed enthusiastically, \u00a0“count me in.”<\/p>\n

So, what is it about Thompson that is giving such new hope and excitement to the\u00a0California<\/span>\u00a0GOP and the world\u00a0crypto\u00a0community?<\/p>\n

Thompson believes “traditional banking institutions are flawed, and technology, cryptos, and\u00a0Bitcoin, can help advance our financial futures.” He advocates that “technology is amoral; it knows not right from wrong; it can be used for good or bad depending on the user. We should carefully move into the future with it and not try, as Sherman has, to put the technology genie back in the bottle.<\/p>\n

Even with such lofty ideals, Thompson’s election won’t be easy as Sherman, his main Democratic opponent, is a 14-term incumbent.\u00a0 He is serving his first term in CA 32 simply because of redistricting.\u00a0California’s<\/span>\u00a032nd district now takes in\u00a0Bel-Air<\/span>,\u00a0Bell Canyon<\/span>,\u00a0Beverly Glen<\/span>,\u00a0Brentwood<\/span>,\u00a0Canoga Park<\/span>,\u00a0Chatsworth<\/span>,\u00a0Encino<\/span>,\u00a0Malibu<\/span>,\u00a0North Hills<\/span>,\u00a0Northridge<\/span>,\u00a0Pacific Palisades<\/span>,\u00a0Reseda<\/span>,\u00a0Sherman Oaks<\/span>,\u00a0Studio City<\/span>,\u00a0Tarzana<\/span>,\u00a0Topanga<\/span>,\u00a0West Hills<\/span>,\u00a0Winnetka<\/span>, and\u00a0Woodland Hills<\/span>.<\/p>\n

When asked about his chances in the race, Thompson quips, “Oh, I will definitely beat Mr. Sleeping-At-The-Wheel,\u00a0Brad Sherman<\/span>.\u00a0 I’m just glad\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/span>\u00a0isn’t running.”<\/p>\n

On Bidenomics, he added that he agrees with TV personality,\u00a0Greg Gutfeld<\/span>, that “the\u00a0$100<\/span>\u00a0bill has become the new\u00a0$20<\/span>\u00a0bill.”<\/p>\n

“Seriously,” he added, “the polarized political positions in our nation have become dangerous in many ways, and, with all that is going on in this world today, there is much disenchantment, disappointment, frustration, and even fear with many Democratic and Republican voters.\u00a0 I intend to bridge this gap of uncertainty and offer a new menu of ideas to the Republican and long-standing Democratic voters.<\/p>\n

“Our CA 32 citizens must deal every day with open borders, and closed minds; sky-high taxes, and low confidence in government; not to mention potholes on Ventura Boulevard and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, plus the traffic and safety issues on Pacific Coast Highway.<\/p>\n

“I have been a ‘Representative’ of Hollywood Talent for over 50 years,” said Thompson. “And I have spent a career as either a lawyer or a personal manager listening, caring, nurturing, planning, and negotiating, to enhance their personas and lives. I now want to be a ‘Representative’ of the people, especially those who live in our\u00a0California<\/span>\u00a032nd District.”<\/p>\n

As a long-time, active Republican, Thompson was a Republican Eagle in 1981, ’82, and ’83, which required a donation to the Republican National Committee of a minimum of\u00a0$10,000<\/span>\u00a0per year.<\/p>\n

He was the recipient of the Republican Presidential Taskforce’s Medal of Merit presented to him by President\u00a0Ronald Reagan<\/span>\u00a0in 1981 and was the personal Talent Manager for President\u00a0Ronald Reagan’s<\/span>\u00a0daughter,\u00a0Patti Davis<\/span>\u00a0from 1982 to 1986.<\/p>\n
