BEVERLY HILLS/STUDIO CITY—On Tuesday, October 28, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Commercial Crimes Division and North Hollywood Division reported arrests were made in connection to the “Shade Snatcher” Commercial Burglary Investigation targeting high-end optical eyewear and sunglasses stores throughout Los Angeles County and Orange County.

The LAPD reported between February and July 2025, detectives identified a sophisticated burglary crew responsible for a large-scale series of “smash-and-grab” commercial burglaries targeting high-end optical retailers and luxury boutiques across Southern California. Each burglary followed a similar pattern.

The suspects used stolen vehicles, usually older SUVs or pickup trucks, to crash through storefronts and bypass security measures during the early morning hours. Once inside, multiple suspects carrying laundry baskets or storage bins quickly stole designer eyewear, handbags, and other merchandise before fleeing in coordinated convoys of follow-up vehicles. The total losses from these crimes amounted to roughly $2.68 million in stolen property and $499,000 in property damage.

Through investigative follow-up, including a meticulous review of surveillance footage and examination of forensic evidence, investigators linked the same vehicles and suspects to multiple crime scenes. The stolen vehicles used to ram through property doors were often taken from South Los Angeles neighborhoods hours before the burglaries, and several key secondary vehicles were consistently seen trailing or leaving the crime scenes. Video evidence confirmed multiple suspects at or near the burglary locations, further supporting their involvement.

Investigators also worked with several outside agencies, including Manhattan Beach Police Department, Newport Beach Police Department, Pasadena Police Department, Alhambra Police Department, Beverly Hills Police Department, and San Diego Police Department, to share case notes, video footage, vehicle data, and evidence.

The ongoing investigation, officially titled “The Shade Snatchers” led to the identification of at least 10 suspects, including documented gang members and repeat offenders of property crimes. LAPD North Hollywood Burglary Detectives, with assistance from the Metropolitan Division, Commercial Crimes Division, and Gangs and Narcotics Division, carried out surveillance operations and secured multiple search and arrest warrants. This investigation led to the arrest of the primary suspects, including three adults and three juveniles.

The adult suspects have been identified as:
· Phillip T. Harris, 37, of Bellflower
· Orlando D. Neal, 37, of Los Angeles
· Rasheed Reed, 25, of Compton

A total of 26 counts of Burglary and Grand Theft were filed, along with additional firearm-related charges, including possession of an assault pistol, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a silencer. Bail amounts for the suspects range from $500,000 to $1,225,000, depending on their level of involvement.

This case remains active and is being prosecuted by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Organized Crime Section. Detectives are working to identify additional suspects and other crimes this group may have committed. The case is being submitted to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. Detectives are seeking further information about these burglaries and are asking the public for help. Any additional information can be given to the North Hollywood Burglary Detectives.

Released surveillance footage highlights one incident to illustrate the suspect’s actions. The video can be viewed on the LAPD Headquarters YouTube Channel.

Anyone with details related to this investigation is asked to contact Detective Colin Langsdale, Commercial Crimes Division at 213-486-6940, or Detective Brandon McConnell, North Hollywood Division at 818-754-8377. LOS ANGELES—Our Congressional Representative, Brad Sherman (D) CA-32, has been in Washington, D.C. for 15-Terms, 30-Years. Do you know who he is? He is a living example of what you get when you live in a one-party state with no congressional term limits. He has been around forever and done nothing. No decision he has ever made in three decades has been seriously challenged by anyone. He has had to show no accountability…and he has made many unbelievably bad and costly decisions for us. And now, he has left us in a mess.

Sherman has learned how to “quietly” do nothing. He distances himself from controversy. He’s not a leader…He’s a follower. Not a thinker…A party “yes man.” He always shows up one day too late to act as if he’s helping, but instead, he awkwardly just stands there doing nothing with his goofy smile.

How much has he cost you personally? As a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, Sherman has consistently led the fight to kill Bitcoin and all Cryptocurrencies. In fact, having so many financial institutions as supporters, he has advocated “outlawing” digital currencies. So, as it turns out, he has been on the wrong side of history for over 15 years. He has tried to stop the future. Bitcoin started trading in July of 2010 for $0.05 per coin. If you had bought just one Bitcoin, then or even in 2016 (just nine years ago) for $400 a coin it would be worth $124,005 today. So much for his negative rhetoric, hollow scare tactics, financial advice, and proposed killer legislation.

He chimed in with the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris LIE that the border was secure when in fact it wasn’t, and they knew it. He kept silent when Biden struggled mentally in his campaign. He claims to support Israel…sometimes. He continues to stall in leading a solution to the Metro Transit Project connecting the San Fernando Valley to LA’s West side. The endless delays have been bogged down by his accountant-due-diligence mentality instead of having an assertive vision with momentum to get it done.

As a career politician who has never earned more than $174,000 a year, he has a home in Los Angeles and a home in Washington, D.C. worth an estimated $14 Million dollars. How is that mathematically possible? Well, I said he was an accountant.

Regarding the Palisades and Malibu fires, I agree with real estate billionaire and former LA Mayoral candidate, Rick Caruso, who proclaims, “If it’s predictable it’s preventable.” Sherman and Mayor Karen Bass, both career politicians, don’t practice preventive governance, but instead, they rely on remedial governance.

Sherman claims and implies that Sherman Oaks and Sherman Way were named after him and his family. That’s simply a lie. Sherman Oaks and Sherman Way were named after General Moses Hazeltine Sherman (1853-1932). He was a land developer and entrepreneur from Vermont who came to California in the late 1800s and founded Sherman Oaks development. If Brad Sherman will lie about a town being named after him and his family, what else will he lie about?

It’s time for a change. My name is Larry Thompson, and I am running for United States Congress. This will be my second attempt to unseat Sherman. In the recent 2024 election, I received over 108,000 votes, which is the most votes ever received by a candidate running against him.

With your help, I plan to defeat him this time.

I am a Christian first. A Conservative second. A Republican third.

I am a member of Turning Point USA and Stand With Crypto . I am a compassionate, intelligent, experienced businessman who uses Common Sense. I am running for Congress to awaken, organize, and unite the dissatisfied Democratic voter, the canceled conservative voter, and the undecided No Party Preference voter. Visit: www.LarryThompsonForCongress.com

I have been endorsed by the California Republican Party, the Los Angeles County Republican Party, the Ventura County Republican Party, California Young Republicans, California College Republicans, Los Angeles County Young Republicans, the American Independent Party, Brock Pierce, Chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation, David Hernandez, Chairman of the Los Angeles Hispanic Republican Club, and Regional Vice Chair of CAGOP’s Los Angeles County, and Kelsey Grammer, among many others. Visit my 32-Point Political Vision at Larry Thompson For Congress – 32 Points

Democrats and Non-Party Preference voters, I believe I will earn all or most of the Republican votes, but I cannot win without your votes also. You have voted for Sherman for 30 years…! What about giving me a shot? My term would only be for two years. If I don’t do a better job than him, vote me out in 2028 and put him or another Democrat back in.

California’s District 32, where I am running against Sherman, encompasses at this time the communities of Bel-Air, Bell Canyon, Beverly Glen, Brentwood, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Malibu, North Hills, Northridge, Pacific Palisades, Reseda, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Tarzana, Topanga, West Hills, Winnetka, and Woodland Hills. The district traditionally trends Democratic by a large margin of 70-30.

I know, it’s difficult to make a party change. Change isn’t just difficult. Sometimes, it feels impossible.

You know the feeling. You make a bold decision — to eat healthier, end a toxic relationship, move to a new city, leave that job, start that business, finally go after the life you keep pretending, you’re not afraid of. You start out strong, your heart full of conviction. But weeks—or even days—later, you find yourself back where you started, sabotaging your progress or convincing yourself it was never worth it anyway. And then comes the shame.

You wonder why everyone else seems to manage change so gracefully while you’re drowning in self-doubt. You ask yourself, “What’s wrong with me?” But the truth is: nothing is wrong with you. Change is not a straight path. It is a reckoning. A grief. A rebirth. A neurological, psychological, and emotional storm that stirs up every part of your identity. It’s not that you’re weak. It’s that you’re human.

American author, speaker, and pastor, Dr. John Maxwell, says, “When it comes to change, there are three seasons of timing: People change 1. when they hurt enough that they have to, 2. when they learn enough that they want to, and 3. when they receive enough that they are able to.”

Are you in any one of these three seasons?

Isn’t it time you tried something new to build a future for you and your children? Sometimes the person that brought you here isn’t the person you need to guide you forward.

Think about it. Vote for change. Vote for Larry Thompson for Congress.

STUDIO CITY—On July 3, the Department of Homeland Security announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Julio César Chávez Jr. on July 2.  According to a DHS press release, Chavez, a Mexican National, had an active warrant for his arrest in Mexico for his involvement in trafficking, ammunition, firearms, and explosives and has a known connection to organized crime.

In an interview with the El Heraldo Newspaper, renowned boxer, Julio César Chávez Sr., defended his son, and asked why he was allowed in the ring for his June 27 fight he lost against Jake Paul in Anaheim, California.

“Why did they let him fight? My son has been paying taxes in the United States for three years, and now in Mexico, they’re accusing him of money laundering. Yes, he knows those people, but that doesn’t mean he’s a drug trafficker. Let’s trust the law.”

The younger Chavez did enter the U.S. legally on a B2 Tourist Visa in August of 2023.  That Visa expired in February 2024.

According to ICE, Chavez applied for permanent residency status on April 2, 2024. It was based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen who had connections to the Sinaloa Cartel from a prior relationship with the son of now deceased Cartel leader, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

On December 17, 2024, ICE notified DHS authorities under the Biden Administration of the presence of Chavez, referring to him as a “Safety Threat.”  The Biden Administration Disregarded ICE’s warning indicating that Chavez wasn’t a priority.  The Biden Administration permitted Chavez to reenter the country.

On June 27, 2025, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal agents determined that due to fraudulent statement on his application for citizenship, Chavez was in the country illegally, and removable.

The following information came directly from the July 3, DHS press release:

Rap Sheet of Julio César Chávez Jr:

“On January 22, 2012, California Highway Patrol arrested Chavez and charged him with DUI alcohol/drugs and Driving Without a License. On June 23, 2012, the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, convicted Chavez for the offense of driving under the influence of alcohol and sentenced him to 13 days in jail and 36 months’ probation.

On January 14, 2023, a District Judge issued an arrest warrant for Chavez, for the offense of organized crime for the purpose of committing crimes of weapons trafficking and manufacturing crimes, in the modality of those who participate in clandestinely bringing weapons, ammunition, cartridges, explosives into the country; and those who manufacture weapons, ammunition, cartridges, and explosives without the corresponding permit.

On January 7, 2024, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Chavez and charged him with Illegal Possession of Any Assault Weapon and Manufacture or Import Short Barreled Rifle. The court convicted Chavez of these charges.”

STUDIO CITY—On Tuesday, May 20, actor and comedian George Wendt, better known as “Norm Peterson,” from the 80’s NBC TV sitcom “Cheers” has passed away. A family representative first confirmed the actor’s death with ABC saying, “He died peacefully in his sleep while at home.”

Wendt starred in 275 episodes of “Cheers” between 1982 and 1993. He won six Emmy nominations for his roles as sort of a bar-fly character who seemingly closed down the bar each night, staggering out the door.

A fun fact is that Norm’s beer was what was called “Near Beer,” a non-alcoholic replica with salt added to it to make it look frothy. While his character appeared to down about 10 beers an episode, in real life, he may have drunk less than a glass. The cast indicated that in real life the beer was terrible and flat.

Another bit of trivia is that Norm’s TV wife, Vera, only ever appeared in one episode, and the actress who portrayed her was his wife, Bernadette Birkett. It was a Thanksgiving episode, and she had a pie in her face. The rest of the time, the audience only ever heard her voice.

Wendt kept a Twitter (Now X) page in years gone by when he’d post where he would be ‘stopping for a beer’ and name the bar then he’d say something to the effect of, “Come by and say hi.”

Funeral arrangements have not been announced. The family asks for privacy at this time.

HOLLYWOOD—While George Clooney was making headlines redirecting the Democratic Party away from President Joe Biden and Taylor Swift was taking a short breather from her celebrity packed, near-ending Eras Tour to sing the praises of Vice President Kamala Harris, an underground movement was taking hold in liberal-minded Hollywood to support California Congressional Candidate, Larry Thompson (R).

Beneath the noise of the Tinsel Town premieres and Presidential Fundraisers, Thompson, a veteran Hollywood lawyer, talent manager, and film producer, was quietly convincing the town to break ranks as loyal Democrats and support him down the line as a rare Republican for Congress CA-32.

Thompson, who has been unanimously endorsed by the California Republican Party, refers to himself as a Moderate Republican Sanity Man. “I want to bring Sanity back to an insane world,” says Thompson. His mantra has found traction with stars and the Hollywood, liberal elite.

Leading Hollywood consultant and best-selling author Michael Levine expressed his admiration today for Thompson, stating: “No California political candidate in the last three decades has seriously threatened to unseat U.S. Congressman Brad Sherman (D)… until now. Larry has stepped onto the political stage with a bold message: ‘This used to be Reagan Country, and I’m running for Congress to take it back for him.’ His message has resonated deeply with voters in California’s 32nd Congressional District, which includes the San Fernando Valley and extends along Sunset Boulevard from Bel-Air to Malibu. Thompson’s energetic campaign, fueled by a youthful social media presence, innovative print ads, and widespread campaign signage, has ignited bipartisan support from Democrats and Republicans. He is seen as a fresh, unorthodox voice in a district known for its entrenched political figures.”

“California likes to set new trends,” Thompson quips, “and I’m glad to be a part of this one.” Visit: www.LarryThompsonForCongress.com

Six-time Emmy Award winning actor and producer, Kelsey Grammer, adds, “Larry is a good man. A thoughtful man. I know Larry Thompson. He’s been to my home. And he’s willing to serve selflessly after a successful life in our community. That is the whole idea, isn’t it? The House of Representatives would be well served to have some fresh blood this year. I support Larry Thompson for Congress.”

Thompson admits, “It’s rewarding to learn that our long-time, liberal, star-studded, closed society still has an open mind.”

STUDIO CITY—On October 22, public mortgage reports of Adam Schiff, a Democrat, who is currently serving his 12th term in the House of Representatives representing the state of California, has been caught dually claiming both his home in Potomac, Maryland where he resides, and another house he owns in Burbank, California as his primary residence, and has been for decades.

Schiff is currently challenging Republican, Steve Garvey, California resident and former first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres (1969-1987) for the vacant Senate seat of the late Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Mortgage records indicate that Schiff purchased his home located at 8204 Windsor View Terrace in Potomac, Maryland on May 9, 2003. The most recent Assessor’s estimated value is $1,081,700.00. The current mortgage payment is $610,000.

CNN first reported that Schiff receives a $7,000 reduction, an estimated $70,000 tax break annual savings in property taxes on his condominium in Burbank, California, located in the southeastern end of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County.

Reports indicate that this tax break was only taken for the condo in California, not his Maryland home.

Adam Schiff has been serving the state of California as a State Representative since 2001, and in the U.S. Senate before that. Details are as follows.

California, District 30, 118th Congress (2023-Present)

California, District 28 113th-117th Congress (2013-2023)

California, District 29 108th-112th Congress (2003-2013)

California, District 27 107th Congress (2001-2003)

California State Senator from 1996-2000

In addition, Schiff has served as a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee. Schiff is currently on a leave of absence from the House Appropriations Committee to which he remains an ex officio member.

Schiff has been endorsed by many of his peers who served beside him for decades including California Governor, Gavin Newsom, Secretary of State, Rob Bonta, and former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

Canyon News reached out to Governor Gavin Newsom for a statement regarding Mr. Schiff representing the state of California while residing in the state of Maryland but did not hear back in time for print.

Polling in CA-32 Shows Thompson (R) Gaining Fast

WOODLAND HILLS, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES—August 26, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — Rep. Brad Sherman (CA-32) has been in Congress for 14 terms (28 years). As a Democrat in a deep blue California district, he has had very little competition for almost three decades…until now. Out of the wild west, Larry Thompson, also known as “The Sanity Man,” has ridden into town claiming “this used to be Reagan Country and I’m running for Congress to take it back for him.”

Thompson’s call to arms has found serious traction among voters and is threatening Sherman’s stronghold.

California’s District 32 encompasses the communities of Bel-Air, Bell Canyon, Beverly Glen, Brentwood, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Malibu, North Hills, Northridge, Pacific Palisades, Reseda, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Tarzana, Topanga, West Hills, Winnetka, and Woodland Hills. The district traditionally trends Democratic by a large margin of 70-30. Door-to-door campaign polling shows Thompson pulling up close to 50-50.

With national political fatigue, a divisive country full of hatred, fear of a World War, inflation, a local rise in Anti-Semitism, continued homelessness, increasing crime in the San Fernando Valley, disrespect for law and order and the police, and Bel-Air’s privacy being threatened by an underground rail to possibly be built connecting Ventura Boulevard to Westwood, voters are deciding to accept the need for change, and, instead of faithfully and blindly voting their party line, they are deciding to break ranks and simply vote their values. Thompson argues that he upholds those values and is ready to go to work to install or restore them.

Congressman Brad Sherman (D) was a no-show at the Warner Center Park Concert.

When asked yesterday at this year’s final Summer Concert at Warner Center Park in Woodland Hills why he thinks his campaign is doing so well, Thompson answered, “Well, I am running for Congress to awaken, organize, and unite the canceled conservative voter, the dissatisfied Democrat voter, and the undecided No Party Preference voter. I want them to no longer feel alone, defeated, and scared. I ask that they have courage, stand up, and join me and those who share their values and vision of our country. I want everyone to simply use Common Sense with Common Civility to find Common Ground to solve our Common Issues. Let’s start a new conversation to finally stop the fighting, regain our ‘Sanity,’ and get something done. Politics have become insane. I’m the ‘Sanity Man.'”
