MELROSE—The Los Angeles Police Department is still searching for the suspect responsible for beating 24-year-old Jessica McLaughlin to the point that she was placed on life support.

Jessica worked at the 7/11 establishment in the 5700 block of Melrose Avenue in Hollywood. She was viciously beaten by her assistant manager, Valeria Parra, while at work on June 24.

“Jessica walked into work expecting a normal day — but instead, she was violently and senselessly attacked by one of her managers. She held her down, sat on top of her, and didn’t let her breathe. While some coworkers tried to help and stop it, they were attacked too. When she finally got free, she collapsed. She wasn’t breathing.

Her coworkers gave her CPR and called for help. Meanwhile, the manager ran to the back room to try and delete the security footage — and then fled the scene on her bike,” said her brother Sean via GoFundMe

Parra attempted to delete video of the attack from the security footage. She fled the scene before authorities arrived. Jessica lost oxygen to her brain for more than 10 minutes.

“Doctors and detectives later confirmed what we already knew in our hearts — Jessica didn’t do anything wrong. She was the victim, and this attack should have never happened,” Sean added.

She was kept alive on machines for several days. The damage from the lack of oxygen was too much. Her brain stopped functioning. After getting second opinions and doing everything they could, the family made the decision to take Jessica off life support on June 30.

Her father, Clancy McLaughlin spoke to KTLA news about the incident, explaining that his daughter was a kind person who gave to all including providing food to the homeless and donating clothes.

“We’re asking for help to cover the costs of her funeral — including the casket, flowers, transportation, and some unexpected legal and medical expenses that have come with this tragedy. If you can help — whether it’s by donating or just sharing this — it would mean everything to us. Every bit helps. We want to lay her to rest with the same love and dignity she gave to others every single day,” Sean stated on the GoFundMe page.

A GoFundMe was set up by Jessica’s brother, Sean to help cover funeral expenses. As of Friday, July 25, the GoFundMe has raised $40,706 of its $50,000 goal. Jessica’s funeral service is expected on Thursday, July 31.

Anyone with details about the incident or has whereabouts on the location of Valeria Parra should contact the LAPD Operations West Bureau Homicide detectives at (213) 473-9470. After-hours details can be left at (877) 527-3247 or provide anonymous tips at (800) 222-8477.

MELROSE—Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide, with the help of detectives from the Gang and Narcotics Division Marshall’s Task Force, have arrested, Eric Watts, 31, of Oakland in connection to several robberies in the Los Angeles Area. Watts was identified by DNA evidence, as well as surveillance video and other evidence linking him to the crimes. Two of the robberies Watts was identified in transpired on Melrose Avenue that led to an officer involved shooting.

The LAPD reported before he was taken into custody, Watts was wanted for a parole violation and had an active warrant since June 2021.

On September 7, Detectives from Robbery-Homicide Division and Gang and Narcotics Division U.S. Marshall’s Task Force worked in conjunction with the Northern District of California U.S Marshal Task Force to locate Watts at a home in Martinez, California. He was taken into custody without incident and a search warrant was conducted by LAPD personnel. He was transported back to Los Angeles and booked into jail for the below listed crimes.

On September 9, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed six counts of 211 PC- Robbery for the robberies that occurred in Los Angeles.

During the course of the investigation, Watts was also identified as the suspect in additional robberies in Northern California where police agencies are expected to present additional charges in their jurisdiction.

On May 21 at around 9:30 p.m. a victim stopped at a gas station in the 5100 block of West Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles after visiting another business. He went inside to pay for gas and was confronted by two suspects. Both suspects armed with handguns demanded his property. The victim complied and handed over his watch, cell phone, and wallet. The suspects exited the market area of the gas station and went to the victim’s vehicle and took more property from the victim’s car. The suspects fled with the victim’s property. The estimated property loss was over $31,000.

On May 22 at around 3:30 p.m., the victim parked in the shopping center near the 5500 block of West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles after visiting a nearby business. A white Lexus parked behind him, blocking him in. Two suspects approached him next to his vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at him and demanded his Rolex watch. Both suspects went through the victim’s pockets, took his money and car keys. The victim was able to run away from the suspects and retain his watch. The estimated property loss was $500.

On May 24, at around 2:30 p.m., two victims were dining inside a restaurant at 8300 West 3rd Street in Los Angeles. The suspects entered the restaurant armed with handguns and demanded the victims’ jewelry and money. The suspects took a necklace and car keys from the victims. The suspects fled with the property and drove away in a white Lexus.

Eric Watts.

On July 5 at around 3:15 p.m., two victims were shopping together on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. While they were inside a jewelry store on the 7300 block of Melrose Avenue, two suspects entered the store while armed with handguns. They demanded their property. They took the victims’ watch, purse, and a handbag. The suspects walked out of the store with the victims’ property and drove away in a nearby vehicle. The estimated property loss was over $70,000.

On July 14 at 6:45 p.m., the victim and two friends were shopping inside a clothing store near the 7800 block of Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Two suspects parked a black newer model BMW X5 in front of the store, exited the vehicle, and entered the business armed with handguns. They approached the victim and demanded his jewelry. A struggle ensued in which the victim’s necklace and shirt was removed from his body, the victim ran further into the store, behind the sales counter and cash register. The struggle continued over the victim’s expensive watch he was wearing. The victim’s necklace and ring were taken in the robbery. The suspects exited the business and ran outside still holding handguns.

As the suspected robbery was taking place inside the store, LAPD officers were flagged down for a robbery in progress. An Officer-Involved Shooting occurred as the suspects were exiting the store. During the course investigation, it was determined one of the suspects dropped a handgun while fleeing. The handgun was recovered.

The arrest highlights the extensive investigation and relentless pursuit of violent robbery suspects by Robbery-Homicide Follow Home Task Force detectives. This involved multiple search warrants and cooperation between entities both within the Los Angeles Police Department and outside law enforcement agencies.

Detectives released videos of two of the robberies. The video of the robbery and officer involved shooting was previously released to the public.

Detectives believe Watts is involved in other similar robberies that have occurred in Southern and Northern California that have gone unreported. In an attempt to identify additional unidentified victims, detectives are releasing Watts’ photo.

MELROSE— The male victim found shot dead in his car in the Melrose District on Saturday, April 30, has been identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as 22-year-old D’Trevion Turner from Bowling Green, Kentucky.

MELROSE —The Los Angeles Police Department announced the arrest of a 21-year-old suspect in connection to the murder of Marco Sandoval, a 52-year-old father who was shot and killed while walking his dog in March. LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide detectives, the FBI Fugitive Task Force and the San Marcos Police Department coordinated to detain the suspect at his home in San Marcos, Texas on Wednesday, April 27.

On March 12, the victim, later identified as Sandoval, was walking his dog near the corner of Genesee Avenue and Saturn Street in the Mid-City area at around 5 a.m. A dark colored sedan approached and stopped at the Northwest corner of Genesee and Saturn Street. The suspect exited the vehicle, exchanged unknown words with Sandoval then fired two shots at him, the LAPD reported in a statement. The suspect got back into the vehicle and fled Northbound on Genesee Avenue.

By 6:15 a.m., Sandoval’s body was discovered by a passerby who called 911. Paramedics pronounced Sandoval dead at the scene. His dog, Little Torro, was uninjured and reportedly returned home on his own.

A neighbor’s security camera footage captured the dark sedan pulling up, the two shots fired and Sandoval’s dog running away from the scene.

The suspect was identified as Cliffton Kamal Styles, 21, a resident of San Marcos, Texas.

West Bureau Homicide detectives and the FBI Fugitive Task Force developed several leads and coordinated with the San Marcos Police Department in order to arrest Styles.

On Wednesday, April 27, West Bureau Homicide detectives presented a case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who filed a murder charge against Styles. He was arrested at his home later that day. Styles was booked in Texas as a fugitive on a murder warrant and will be extradited back to Los Angeles.

Investigators believe that Sandoval was randomly targeted by Styles who was driving a charcoal gray 2020 Ford Fusion SE, with temporary Texas tags. Detectives determined that Styles traveled from San Marcos, Texas and arrived in Florida. He then drove cross country from Florida to Los Angeles where he committed the murder on March 12.  It was determined he traveled to San Diego before returning to Texas.

Authorities believe that Styles may be suffering from mental illness and could be involved in other violent crimes.

Marco Sandoval’s daughter described her father as a hard-working, good person “who had no enemies,” to NBC4. Sandoval is survived by his daughter Andrea, and one other daughter. Sandoval lived blocks away from where he was murdered for over 20 years.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact West Bureau Homicide at (213) 382-9470.

WEST HOLLYWOOD—At approximately 7:30 p.m. on March 21, two people witnessed a dog being physically assaulted on the third-floor balcony belonging to sister of actress Alexa Mansour, as they walked past the Angelene Apartments located at 915 North La Brea in West Hollywood.

The witnesses screamed out to “let the dog go.” Athena Mansour, the resident of the apartment and the girlfriend of the man assaulting the dog, screamed back to the Good Samaritan to “Shut the F– up!” A verbal confrontation ensued. A few minutes later, Saalih Mousa, Athena’s boyfriend, shot his gun twice at the witnesses, striking the 31-year-old female in the face in front of Sprouts, located in the same building.

Authorities set perimeters to locate the suspect. They confronted the owner of the dogs on the third floor, Athena Mansour. She lied to police claiming that her boyfriend left hours before. She set her Instagram with 49,000 followers on private.

Instagram post on day of shooting by mother of Athena Mansour with a french bull dog, called Bella, the same day she lied to police about the abuse her two french bulldogs, Cash and Dinero. A friend comments on the post, “Gracias por rescatar a cash y dinero” which translated means “Thank you for rescuing Cash and Dinero”. Athena was arrested on March 24th and released with only a citation. Her dogs were given to a friend. Courtesy of instagram account @luzelbamansour captioned with #protectanimal.

On March 24, Athena Mansour was arrested, booked, cited on one count of 32PC, Accessory After the Fact (Knowledge of the Crime) and a bail was set for $500,000, but cited out and released the same day. Her dogs were released to someone who authorities labeled as a “responsible party” to care for the dogs, named “Cash” and “Dinero.”

On March 25, Saalih Mousa was arrested in Downtown Los Angeles and booked on one count of 664/187PC, Attempted Murder and bail was set at $1 million.

The woman that was shot in the face is still hospitalized at Cedars Sinai, in serious but stable condition.

The local community posted online looking for answers. Many locals wanted to know why this was not being broadcast on local media. Others excused it as another unreported crime, since Los Angeles has been flooded with violent crime since the riots of 2020 along with Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon’s agenda to let criminals go without consequences.

Athena Mansour is the 20-year-old girlfriend of Saalih Mousa, who has been charged with shooting the woman in the face, but not with animal cruelty which is an immediate felony after former President Donald Trump signed into law that animal cruelty will be treated as a felony.

Athena owns Curly Collections, which is an eyelash business. Her older sister is actress and model, Alexa Mansour.

Their parents are Zaki and Luzelba Mansour. Her father, Zaki is an Egyptian immigrant who worked as a finance manager and married a Mexican lawyer/actress.

Athena and Alexa’s mother is a performing entertainer and a lawyer.

Alexa was born on May 20, 1996. Shortly after Athena was born in February 2002, the parents split and Luzelba became the dominant parent.

Alexa’s first role was at age 8 in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Then she played Hope Bennett in “The Walking Dead” before being cast in “Home Before Dark.”

She also had blink-and-you-will-miss-her roles in “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Bull,” “Earthtastrophe,” “Unfriended” and “The Resident.”
