SANTA MONICA—Gabriel Jarret, who is best known for his role in the 1985 cult classic film “Real Genius,” is being accused of allegedly trying to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. The sting operation was led by the Creep Catching Unit which is a child activist organization dedicated to catching predators online who are trying to have sex with minors.

According to one of the investigators, Jarrett wanted to have oral sex with a young girl and the unit turned over the evidence they obtained to the Santa Monica Police Department. Evidence included sexually explicit text messages between Jarret and a decoy who said she was only 14. The two had been texting each other since May 26, 2022.

The actor explained to Fox 11 in an interview that he was a victim of entrapment. The station asked why Jarret sent sexual messages to a 14-year-old girl and responded that she was the one sending explicit messages. He said that he planned on meeting the girl in person to “let her off easy” and tell her to stop texting him.

On Sunday, September 10, Jarret made plans to meet the girl at the Santa Monica Pier. When he arrived, he was met with members of the CC Unit who confronted him. Jarret denied all the allegations and demanded that they turn off their camera. Jarret fled the scene.

In a message to the CC Unit Jarret wrote, “I would be very careful what you do with that video, any attempt to try and embarrass me whatsoever I will defend myself..”

In 2018, TMZ reported that Jarret’s then girlfriend accused him of child molestation, rape, and other crimes. She refused to leave his home and was screaming so loudly at him his neighbors overheard. Jarret later filed a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend who was identified as Jennifer Marie Alfano.

SMPD is currently investigating the case to determine if there is verifiable evidence that meets prosecutable standards that can be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney.

No arrest have been made.

BEVERLY HILLS—On Thursday, September 14, the Beverly Hills Police Department indicated in a press release that multiple drivers were cited during their September 8 DUI checkpoint.

Officers held the checkpoint on N. Santa Monica Blvd and Crescent Drive from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

A total of 1,450 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 260 were screened. Officers cited five drivers for operating a vehicle without a license. One person was arrested for driving with a suspended license and had an outstanding DUI warrant.

According to the police department, the primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the roads. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that rates of impaired driving were significantly lower in states that conducted sobriety checkpoints. Studies have also consistently found sobriety checkpoints to be effective in reducing crashes and crash fatalities.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Beverly Hills will have another DUI checkpoint in December, but a specific date has yet to be determined.

HOLLYWOOD HILLS—Varoujan Minasian won $1 million playing Xtreme Multiplier which was sold at Fry’s Hollywood Shell earlier this month.

Townhouse Liquor Store in Bell Gardens sold Martin Canas a winning Xtreme Multiplier ticket. Canas won a total of $1 million.

In Northern California, Miguel Palominos Contreras won $2 million after playing the Instant Prize Crossword game. He purchased his ticket at Moa’s Service Center in Alameda County.

On Thursday, September 7, a teacher from the United Kingdom won what is equivalent to $2.5 million in the UK National Lottery. She announced that she will be leaving her job to pursue her dream career as a historical novel writer.

According to reports, the odds of winning the lotter are 1 in 302,575,350.

Some lottery winners in the past announced that winning negatively affected their lives.

In 2007, Donna Mikkin from Long Island New York, won a total of $34.5 million. Her husband Ed who bought the ticket told the New York Post in 2007 that winning was a “beautiful experience.” The couple decided to take their family to Disney World for a second honeymoon after coming across a large sum of money.

According to Donna, “most of us think that winning the lottery is the ultimate fulfillment. But I found that wasn’t the case. Most people look at winning the lottery as some magic pot of gold waiting for you at the end of the rainbow.”

In a blog post Donna wrote, “I became more concerned about how I was being judged and perceived, not realizing I was the one doing the judging in the first place.” She continued, “If you asked me, my life was hijacked by the lottery.”

Jay Sommers who was 20 years old when her won the Michigan state lottery 1988. He was the youngest lotto winner at the time. At 50 he told the New York Post that “there ain’t no money left,” he explained, “I put money in a trust fund, and the trustee embezzled $2 million from me.”

SANTA MONICA—Charles James Randol, 33, of Santa Monica has agreed to plea guilty to using his cryptocurrency exchange business to help scammers and drug traffickers launder millions through his service on Tuesday, September 5.

The charges and the plea agreement were filed on September 5 in a Los Angeles federal court, and he is expected to make his formal plea before the courts in the near future.

According to the plea agreement, Randol owned and operated a virtual-currency money services business known as Bitcoins4Less and later Digital Coin Strategies LLC from October 2017 to July 2021. He provided cryptocurrency exchange services that included ATMs, postal services, and in person. Randol handled cryptocurrency transactions that amounted to over $10,000 without knowing who his clients were, failing to adhere to regulatory requirements.

Those who have a similar business as Randol verify and record identities of their clients. Failure to do so violates the Bank Secrecy Act.

People by the names of “Puppet Shariff,” “White Jetta,” and “Yogurt Monster” were a few of his clients. “Randol did not request a name, proof of identity, social security number, or any other information about (the undercover agent) or the source of the funds being exchanged,” the agreement states.

The defendant admitted to repeatedly violating federal law and his company’s own policies by facilitating suspicious currency exchange transactions and concealing them from law enforcement.

The defendant advertised his services on his website, and third-party sites like localbitcoins.com, which “falsely represented that Digital Coin Strategies was ‘a fully compliant FinCEN registered money services business,'” according to prosecutors. Randol had posted an anti-money laundering policy “to prohibit and actively prevent money laundering and any activity that facilitates money laundering or the funding of terrorist or criminal activities,” and said that Digital Coin Strategies would take the above-mentioned actions to comply with the federal law.

Randol operated a network of automated kiosks in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties that converted cash to Bitcoin and vice versa allowing criminals to launder funds through his machines which were located in malls, gas stations and convenience stores. He met with anonymous customers in person to complete transactions and utilized the postal service to conduct Bitcoin-for-cash transactions.

“Additionally, when the defendant received the packages, the cash was often packaged in a suspicious manner, including hidden inside children’s books, concealed inside fake birthday or holiday presents, buried within puzzle pieces, or wrapped within multiple magazines,” the court documents say.

In June 2019, fraud proceeds had been mailed to Randol’s post office and the FBI inquired. Two days after the questioning took place Randol indicated to his clients that he was taking a hiatus from converting cash parcels into cryptocurrency because he “ran into an issue.” Shortly after his announcement, Randol agreed to exchange $10,000 in cash for Bitcoin for the same anonymous client.

Randol faces up to five years in federal prison plus a fine of up to $250,000 or twice the total illicit proceeds from the scams.

WEST HOLLYWOOD—Two women are suing the Rainbow Bar located in West Hollywood claiming they were sexually abused by adult film star Ron Jeremy back in 2017.

The lawsuit claims that the famous Sunset Strip restaurant allowed Jeremy inside and would allegedly “facilitate Ron Jeremy drugging women’s drinks.” The two victims only identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 allege that the negligent actions of the defendant “caused the injuries and damages including being sexually assaulted by Ron Jeremy.” Jeremy is not named as a defendant in this lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, the Rainbow Bar and Grill’s Yelp page has more than 1,000 customer reviews which include more than 50 that mention Jeremy as a regular. Some of the reviews have multiple photos of Jeremy with other patrons.

The suit claims that the Rainbow Bar and Grill employees would give permission and would knowingly allow Ron Jeremy, a known sexual predator, to use the employees’ restroom to sexually assault female patrons. The company has allegedly allowed the defendant his own dungeon where he would commit heinous sexual acts against female patrons.

“The Rainbow Bar intentionally created a dangerous, sexualized, and hostile environment for its female patrons.”

The plaintiffs claim that within 10 minutes of their arrival at the Rainbow Bar & Grill back on March 17, 2017, Jeremy targeted the women by offering them drinks, talking to the pair and attempting to make out with them. The two women refused Jeremy’s advances and he later approached Jane Doe 1 and told her, “Let me show you something cool.” He then proceeded to inappropriately touch her without her consent, according to the suit.

Jeremy who is currently a resident in a state-run mental health facility, is facing other rape and sexual assault charges involving 21 alleged victims dating back to 1996, after an August 2021 indictment. Criminal proceedings were suspended in March 2022 after his attorney questioned his mental competency.

BEVERLY HILLS—Jobson Marangoni De Castro, 37, was arrested Monday, August 21, for allegedly stealing more than $1.8 million in jewelry, clothing and accessories from Brazilian guests that were staying at The Peninsula Beverly Hills on May 10. He was found at the Los Angeles International Airport and charged with interstate transportation of stolen property. De Castro is currently being held with a bond as of Wednesday, August 23.

On the day the suitcases were taken, De Castro was said to have traveled to The Peninsula Beverly Hills via Uber. When he arrived at the destination, he convinced a hotel employee to give him a key to the victims’ room. When he walked into the room, he found one of the guests asleep and the other was away. De Castro left the room and traveled back and forth to the hotel using Uber, according to prosecutors.

On the previous day, he was also reported to have eaten at the hotel bar and charged his meal to the room where the victims were staying.

When the victims both left their room to have dinner, De Castro entered the room again and was said to have stolen six suitcases from the two guests who were in Beverly Hills for a fashion event. The items stolen included five Tumi suitcases worth about $5,000; a $1,000 Rimowa carry-on bag; a Flavia Vetorasso Diamond necklace worth $200,000; a Chopard L’Heure du Diamant watch worth $89,400; a white Chanel dress worth $14,000, and a combination of other clothing items and shoes worth around $285,000.

When the couple returned later that evening they discovered that their belongings were missing and notified hotel staff who reported the crime to law enforcement.

The items found in the suitcases were allegedly for sale. On May 17, De Castro, using the alias “Jobs Marangoni,” traveled to Miami and messaged a potential buyer on Instagram who later wired him $50,000 for the jewelry and a luxury watch.

According to the DOJ, De Castro told the buyer that he had papers for the items because he found them in a box who belonged to his mother. He delivered the items to the buyer’s store which was in Miami.

Investigators were able to track De Castro’s movements the day the crimes transpired using GPS data from his Uber trips and one of the suitcases still had two AirTags inside.

Officials discovered during their investigation that De Castro was currently being investigated for another theft that occurred at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

If convicted, De Castro would face a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. The FBI and BHPD are leading this investigation.

WEST HOLLYWOOD—The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced that they will be conducting a DUI checkpoint in West Hollywood on Friday, August 18. The location where the checkpoint will be established is undisclosed and will be conducted between 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The department indicated that DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data that shows frequent incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

According to LACSD, the purpose of the announcement is to raise public awareness about the hazards of driving while intoxicated and to encourage sober, designated drivers in addition to removing those driving under the influence off the road to ensure the safety of other drivers and pedestrians alike.

On July 22, LACSD conducted a DUI checkpoint which resulted in the arrests of two adults on suspicion of driving under the influence. A total of 1,380 drivers came through the checkpoint and 948 were screened. 9 drivers were cited and released for other violations, including driving with a suspended or revoked license.

LACSD warns the public that impaired driving is not just induced by alcohol. Some prescription medications as well as over-the-counter-drugs can affect one’s ability to drive safely. Even though both medical and recreational use of marijuana is legal in the State of California, driving while under the influence of marijuana is also a crime.

First-time offenders found to be under the influence can result in an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and can result in a suspended license.

This program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Back in 2019, musician Noah Benardout, 24, was killed by a vehicle following a collision caused by a drunk driver who was identified as Jacob D. Gralitzer. He was attending a Viacom employee premiere party for the now-cancelled Comedy Central late night talk show Lights Out with David Spade. Gralitzer became intoxicated and then proceeded to get inside of a vehicle and drove through the streets of West Hollywood at high speeds. His car hit Benardout and he sustained blunt force trauma to his head. Benardout died as a result of the injury.

The West Hollywood Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has the following safety tips:

  • Even one drink can impair your judgment and increase the risk of getting arrested for driving drunk — or worse, the risk of having a crash while driving.
  • If you will be drinking, do not plan on driving. Plan ahead; designate a sober driver before the party begins.
  • If you have been drinking, do not drive. Call a taxi, phone a sober friend or family member, use public transportation or call one of your local sober ride home programs.
Be responsible. If someone you know is drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel.
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement. Your actions may save someone’s life, and inaction could cost a life.

BEVERLY HILLS—The City of Beverly Hills filed a lawsuit against a union representing striking hotel workers on Tuesday, August 15, claiming that their protests have drawn noise complaints from nearby residents.

The suit which was filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court is seeking a court order to direct demonstrators from the Unite Here! Local 11 to limit their protests to 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Protestors are said to be using drums and bullhorns as early as 5:30 a.m. outside of the Beverly Hilton and Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.

Residents have been reporting that they’ve been hearing screaming, shouting, and whistles in the area of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards. BHPD have received reports and investigated. According to investigators, protesters refused to identify themselves expect for union representatives.

The union’s Co-President Kurt Petersen issued a statement Wednesday, August 16, regarding the lawsuit.

“It is beyond outrageous that the city of Beverly Hills is using its resources to stifle the First Amendment-protected protest activity of low-wage, immigrant workers,” the statement read. “These are workers who make its luxury hotels run and who are simply seeking a living wage. The city should be helping to lift them up, not attack them with baseless lawsuits.”

On July 24, City Manager Nancy Hunt-Coffey addressed another union leader from Unite Here! Local 11 named Sol and told her that the drums were disturbing residents. She asked that Sol and other union members delay their demonstrations until 8 a.m. and to stop using drums. “Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Sol responded.

On July 26, Capt. Giovanni Trejo of the BHPD went to the location where the protests were being held asking that one of the union representatives, Lorena Lopez, hold off on the noise before 8 a.m. According to the suit, “she indicated she would consider the request, but did not commit to complying.”

Later that day the police department responded to complaints from Beverly Hills staff and security who claimed that they were experiencing aggression from some of the protestors. Allegedly, the protesters broke through a barrier, injured a security guard, blew bullhorns in peoples ears, blocked traffic and screamed.

One Beverly Hills residents commented on social media shortly after the news of the lawsuit broke stating, “Residents are cry babies. Stay Strong Writers and SAG-AFTRA.”

George Vreeland Hill wrote his account of the protests in Beverly Hills on Facebook on July 25,” A lot of protesting going on in Beverly Hills. This one is at the Beverly Wilshire. There are others at the Waldorf and Beverly Hills Hilton. Probably other hotels as well. They are making a lot of noise. No contract, no peace? Try getting some sleep today.”

WEST HOLLYWOOD—Ken Todd, who is reality TV star Lisa Vanderpump’s husband, was served legal papers on August 10th, at 8:33 p.m., from his former landlord for alleged unpaid rent on the couple’s now defunct restaurant PUMP in West Hollywood.

Earlier this month the landlord’s company, 8948 Santa Monica Partners, sued PUMP LLC and Todd seeking close to $1 million dollars for breach of rental contract among other allegations. The tenants agreed to pay $32,000 per month in rent back in 2013 which was later increased to $42,500 in 2020.

The landlords are suing for $150,000 in absconding the liquor license, $50,000 of stolen fixtures, $250,000 of unpaid rent, $950,000 in damages, an additional $750,000 in damages for breach of contract, and $200,000 for not transferring over the liquor license with an estimated fair market value of $150,000.

According to reports, Todd’s former landlord hired a process server to track him down and served the paperwork at the couple’s Villa Rose estate in Beverly Hills. The estate is said to be worth $12 million.

The court documents reveal that Todd was supposed to turn the liquor license over to the new renter but refused to after surrendering the property on July 13th. After the couple relinquished the property, a new restaurant was established, and Todd allegedly withheld the liquor license preventing the new business from opening. This cost the landlords approximately $56,500 of base rent and other charges.

Todd denies allegations of any wrongdoing, but the property owners claim that his promissory fraud was willful, malicious and made in bad faith with reckless disregard for the wrongful and tortious nature when he entered into the lease contract.

In an interview with Page Six, Todd stated that the aggressive behavior by the landlord will not be tolerated and added that they showed no forgiveness during the entire term of Covid.

Back in May, a month before PUMP closed down, Vanderpump claimed that the rent had reached an untenable amount. The property owners deny Vanderpump’s claim telling Page Six, “We did not raise the rent and in fact have been nothing but supportive as they tried to catch up on lease obligations including forgiving some rent during Covid.”

On August 9th, the couple announced that they had plans to countersue 8948 Santa Monica Partners for damages. In a statement Todd claimed, “When we took over the place known as Pump 10 years ago, it was an empty car park. There were no trees. We installed beautiful olive trees, and they belong to us. We did not take the trees; they are still there. We did not rip the chandeliers out like the landlord is claiming. We lovingly took the antiques out, which are now in our possession as they are also ours. You don’t normally find antique chandeliers hanging in a car park. The liquor license we have traded under for the last 10 years also belongs to us. We are happy to sell it to them at the fair market value.”

“As a result of the landlord’s actions, we will be filing a cross-complaint seeking compensatory and punitive damages for their conduct.”

WEST HOLLYWOOD—Security Ambassadors are facing scrutiny for being caught engaging in intimate behavior with two women while in uniform as first reported by WeHo Times on Saturday, August 5.

The video was first submitted to WeHo times by what was described as a concerned West Hollywood citizen. Video footage shows two security ambassadors kissing and flirting with two women next to Circus of Books on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Jolla Avenue just before 1 a.m.

In one portion of the video one of the ambassadors appears to barely have his shirt on.

Block by Block, the company that staffs the security guards and is investigating the matter, issued a statement that read:

“We take matters such as this very seriously. Block by Block ambassadors are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times… This incident is being investigated by our management team and will be addressed according to our company policy.”

Block by Block Security Ambassadors are unarmed and help provide safe passage to residents at night. They are identified by their blue uniforms and act as watchdogs for law enforcement.

West Hollywood residents have shown mixed feelings about the incident. “Probably drunk girls being taken advantage of. The usual.” Peter Blunt wrote on X formerly known as Twitter.

“Typical, our tax dollars hard at work, just not the work we need,” wrote someone by the name of Rob.

Louis D Jacobs wrote on Facebook, “Ambassadors are worthless just like the WeHo politicians that defunded the police and got rid of 2 sheriffs. What did you expect from unarmed bicycle riders?”

Others responded with, “If it’s just a girl saying hi to her boyfriend, who cares. Context needed.”

“This is the only form of corruption I approve of,” said another.

BEVERLY HILLS—Pete Davidson, 29, most known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and “King of Staten Island,” has entered a diversion program to resolve a reckless driving charge for driving into a Beverly Hills home back in March. Authorities announced on Tuesday, July 25, that Davidson will also perform 50 hours of community service as a result of his charges.

Initially, Davidson pleaded not guilty to his misdemeanor charges and was placed in an 18-month diversion that also included 12 hours of traffic school, an order to obey all laws and restitution that was not specified. He was charged on June 16.

Prosecutors described the crash that occurred on March 4 a “serious collision.” No one was reported injured.

The actor/comedian will likely do his 50 hours of community service with the New York Fire Department which is where his father worked. Davidson’s father Scott Matthew Davidson passed away after responding to the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. He was only 7 years old

Davidson started his career in standup back in 2013 before being hired as a cast member on the NBC late-night sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live for 8 seasons. He was on the show from 2014 to 2022.

HOLLYWOOD—Country music Star Jason Aldean’s latest music video for his song “Try That In A Small Town,” has been pulled by the network after receiving backlash for its setting and lyrics. The video just lasted one weekend on Country Music Television after being first aired on Friday, July 14.

In the video, the award-winning musician is seen performing in front of the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee which was the site of a 1927 mob lynching of an 18-year-old black teenager named Henry Choate. Years later the 1946 Columbia race riot transpired at that same site. Footage of riots and flag burnings are dispersed throughout the video.

The video received a lot of criticism online with some saying that the video is “pro-lynching” and has racial undertones.

Aldean, 46, posted a tweet in his defense on Tuesday, July 18. He wrote, “There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.”

“In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests,” Aldean said on Twitter Tuesday. “These references are not only meritless, but dangerous.”

The production company TackleBox, who was behind the video stated that they chose that particular site to film because it is a popular filming location outside of Nashville, they wrote in a statement issued Wednesday, July 19. Aldean did not personally pick the location for his music video to be filmed.

After the video was removed by CMT several conservative figures including Sarah Huckabee Sanders who is the Governor of Arkansas spoke out in favor of the artist.

“The Left is now more concerned about @Jason_Aldean’s song calling out looters and criminals than they are about stopping looters and criminals,” Sanders wrote in a Twitter post Wednesday. She added that this represents Democrats’ priorities for being outraged over Aldean’s lyrics while crime affects cities nationwide.

Aldean has been the center of controversy before. Back in 2015, he dressed up for Halloween as rapper Lil Wayne, wearing blackface makeup and dreadlocks.

Some of Aldean’s lyrics for “Try That in a Small Town” are listed below:

“Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk, Carjack an old lady at a red light, pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store, Ya think it’s cool, well, act a fool if ya like.”

“Cuss out a cop, spit in his face, Stomp on the flag and light it up. Yeah, ya think you’re tough.”

“Well, try that in a small town, see how far ya make it down the road. ‘Round here, we take care of our own.”

“You cross that line, it won’t take long for you to find out, I recommend you don’t try that in a small town.”
