BEVERLY HILLS—In 1989, Erik and Lyle Menendez killed their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion, and the two brothers were recently denied parole. Now their request to receive a new trial has been rejected by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William C. Ryan.
In his ruling, Judge Ryan stated that while new evidence suggests that the brothers’ claim that their father sexually abused them might be corroborated, it does not mean that the brothers did not act with premeditation and deliberation when they murdered their parents. Furthermore, the judge also said that the evidence that Erik and Lyle Menendez claimed to have to support their claim that their father abused them would not cause a juror to have a reasonable doubt about their guilt.
